Monkeypox now known as (Mpox) was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation on 14th August 2024.
Vaccination for Mpox in Australia
Australia offers two vaccines believed to be effective against Mpox: JYNNEOS® and ACAM2000™. Vaccination is recommended before exposure for optimal protection, though it can also be administered after exposure. If given within 4 days of exposure, the vaccine provides the best chance of preventing the disease.
Effectiveness and Usage
According to the Australian Government and Department of Health and Aged Care, the Vaccination Considerations in Australia are two brands of vaccines.
Vaccination with JYNNEOS® or ACAM2000™ should only be done after a thorough evaluation of the risks and benefits by a healthcare professional and obtaining informed consent from the person receiving the vaccine.
At Keystone, we are dedicated to continually expanding our knowledge and currently the focus on the Mpox virus, its symptoms, and the availability of vaccines worldwide.
